We love an adventure; wether it's climbing glaciers, Mountain biking across deserts, or just exploring our own backyards. Seeking adventures like these are a great way to switch-off from the world, close-out the triathlon noise, but most importantly: have fun and grow! Today Kristian chats with the guys from IGO Adventures. Never heard of it? What is it? Well Bobby sums it up perfectly here:

IGO was born as an idea when I completed the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. After a life-changing 48 days at sea, the euphoria of the finish was powerful. I believe everyone should experience that feeling and have it as frequently as possible. Therefore, I was determined to answer the question: If I bottled the adrenaline and emotions I felt upon seeing Antigua after 2 months of rowing, how can I give that ‘adventure ecstasy’ to people who only have a week to spare? The answer is IGO.

- Bobby Melville – Founder

In today’s episode, we discuss:

  • What is IGO Adventures
  • The DNA that makes these events high on the bucket list
  • The world records and how IGO came about
  • The events on offer

We live in a complicated world, and each year we see the sport that we love become more and more complex, yet results remain unfulfilled. If it was as easy as "the fastest bike, the latest gadget, the most complex training plan, and supplement X, wouldn't everyone be smashing their respective goals? Today we highlight the key areas that we see triathletes overcomplicating and look at workable solutions to creating simplicity.

In today’s episode, we discuss:

  • What you cannot do well without
  • Engine VS Machine
  • Simplifying technology
  • Uncomplicated training
  • Stop hacking
  • How marketing ruins your nutrition
  • Fat Adapted or not fat adapted
  • The search for simplicity
  • F.O.C.U.S
  • Auditing you tri-life

Getting the balance of training and recovery is more art than science sometimes, and can be a complicated process. In the post-Kona whitewash, we have seen quite a few top athletes who (through their own admissions) just didn't get that right on the lead up to the race. We believe this is also a big issue for Age Group triathletes, so today we break down that intricate balance of knowing when enough is enough.

In today’s episode, we discuss:

  • Getting the balance right.
  • Training consistency.
  • Recovery consistency.
  • Getting the execution right.
  • Heading the warning signs.
  • The bigger picture; the macro VS the micro.
  • Art and science of recovery
  • Desire/ drive VS intuition and clarity.
  • Weak desire = weak result.
  • Self reflection and self awareness.
  • When is enough really enough.
  • Doing things you don't want to do.

Ahhh Kona. Such a beautiful location that can deliver both pain and glory. This year was no different with plenty of drama and action unfolding throughout the day followed by plenty of celebrations (and possibly some disappointment). Rather than tell you about the winners of the race (you already know that) today we discuss some valuable lessons from the race on the big island, and how you can apply these in your next race.

In today’s episode, we discuss:

  • Strengths VS Weaknesses
  • Staying cool
  • Training and preparation
  • Backing yourself
  • Understanding when to push
  • Course knowledge
  • Reverting to your trained state
